Have We All Gone To Jail?
As speech after speech at the Democratic National Convention urges hope about the promise of America, I recalled a recent Associated Press story:
1 OUT OF EVERY 100 ADULTS LOCKED UP
Record-high ratio of Americans in prison
From the perspective of the nutrient path, we must reject the following, oft-heard reasons why so many of our fellow citizens are behind bars:

Crime rates are the result of the breakdown of the family and bad morals pushed by the liberal media
Better reporting only makes it look like there is more bad behavior
Crime happens because the poor and persons of color–the majority of […]

Homeopathy, I always realized to be a load of pseudoscientific magical thinking. Ditto reiki, therapeutic touch, and other forms of “energy healing.” It didn’t take an extensive review of the literature to figure that out, although I did ultimately end up doing fairly extensive literature reviews anyway. Then, the more I looked into the hodge-podge of “healing” modalities whose basis is not science but rather prescientific and often mystical thought, the less impressed I was.
Even so, there was always one modality that I gave a bit of a pass to. There was one modality that, or so I thought, might actually have something to it. There was one modality that seemed to have a bit of suggestive evidence that it might do something more […]

In a study published this month in the prestigious Journal of the American Medical Association*, about 200 products made by 37 different manufacturers representative of Ayurvedic Medicine were analyzed. It’s especially alarming because these are products meant to be taken daily to improve overall health. Almost all of the contaminated specimens were made here in the USA.

A daily dose of mercury can’t be good.

The FDA is specifically forbidden from regulating “herbs and supplements.” These products might contain what it says on the label, or might not; they might be contaminated with heavy metals or powerful, non-regulated drugs, or they might just contain essentially nothing at all. Their labels can make just about any sort of health-related claim without fear of regulatory […]

In my previous post, I mentioned that homeopathy was founded by Samuel Hahnemann in 1807. Homeopathy works off of three basic ideas. First, like cures like. Second, less is more. As I dramatically demonstrated in my previous post, homeopathic remedies range from 1¹º dilution at the weakest to 14ºº at the strongest. Anything “stronger” than 30c dilutions has been scientifically proven to contain no molecule of the original substance. To most of you this train of thought probably makes no sense, but never fear! Homeopathy has the answer, and it is called the third principle of homeopathy: water, when shaken, retains memories of what was in it.
Let’s take a look at each of the principles of homeopathy and see why they don’t work. First, we have the Law of Similars or what’s commonly called ‘like cures like’. Hahnemann thought of […]

Yesterday, I was annoyed by a particularly vile article by quackery promoter supreme Mike Adams claiming that Christina Applegate didn’t need a bilateral mastectomy and could have “cured” herself of cancer with “natural” methods. Indeed, my contempt for Mike Adams knows no bounds, given that he is the purveyor of a seemingly never-ending stream of antiscience and quackery, much of it directed at cancer patients, who if they follow Adams’ “advice” could very well miss their best chance at treating their cancer and thereby wind up dead. Indeed, so great is the amount of quackery emanating from that website that I could easily devote this blog to nothing other than refuting it all and I’d still never be able to counter it. On the other hand, when Adams gets to a certain point and I get into a certain mood, I feel that it’s my duty to do what I […]

For today’s post, I’m addressing another type of headache and ways to relieve it without resorting to medication. (The second in my series of posts about how to minimize medications so your liver isn’t metabolizing any more than necessary.) Today, it seemed appropriate to address sinus headaches, since I’m currently suffering from one.
Sinus headaches are caused when the membrane lining the sinuses becomes inflamed and swollen. Sinuses, as you probably already know, are air-filled cavities, or open spaces, within the facial bones. Unfortunately, the membranes lining these cavities are very sensitive to allergens and other substances, and can easily become painfully inflamed. (If you have allergies, you know this all too well.) […]

Research conducted by doctor Edgar Allen has recently revealed that the claws of ravens accumulate morone, an exotic type of energy thought to be essential for human health and well-being. Says Dr. Allen:
“Morone has long been known to be present in large quantities in the human body, especially concentrated in the brain. But it is only relatively recently we have learned how essential this energy is for our health. Indeed, extra infusions of morone can cure nearly any disease, from scurvy to cancer, and has also been shown to be effective in enhancing and stabilising mental states. So it is a wonderful discovery that raven claws act as a sort of distillers of morone energy. All one needs to do is scratch oneself on affected areas with a raven claw, […]
